摘要
Controlled phase selection has been demonstrated in the crystallization of a melt from deep undercooling. In the Fe-Ni alloy system the metastable b.c.c. phase has been solidified by a seeding technique for nickel content up to 30%, using a trigger made of FeMo alloy. The stable f.c.c. phase is shown to be formed spontaneously in primary solidification, while for small nickel concentrations a two-step process prevails, consisting of primary b.c.c. and secondary f.c.c. crystallization.
