STUDY OF NB/ALOX/NB SUPERCONDUCTOR DETECTORS WITH X-RAY AND PULSE LIGHT

摘要
We have detected 5.9 keV X-rays with Nb/AlOx,/Nb superconducting tunnel junctions which are resistant to thermal cycling. The signal charge from the superconductor detector was about 180 times larger than that from a Si detector. An experimental method making use of pulse light sources of various wave lengths was proposed to determine the fundamental limit of energy resolution which comes from the statistical fluctuation of signal charges. Our results indicate the high potential of superconductor detectors as radiation detectors and also as optical sensors. © 1990.
