Intraperitoneal administration of testosterone promotes the appearance of gonadotropin in the pituitary of juvenile male and female rainbow trout. Pituitary gonadotropin had increased by Day 2 and continued to rise during the 14-day period after steroid treatment. Elevated gonadotropin levels were found in the pituitary for at least 28 days. The role of the gonad with respect to sexual development" of the immature pituitary gland is discussed. © 1979."
