Values of the spin-conversion time con in Cu(CH3COO)2H2O, measured as a function of inverse temperature (15<T<30 K), vary exponentially over three orders of magnitude. If we assume intradipolar interactions as the main spin-conversion mechanism, this behavior and the relaxation rate values are completely explained. Measurements of the spin-conversion time as a function of magnetic field and crystal angle confirm this. For the spin-lattice relaxation time 1, on the other hand, relaxation due to paramagnetic impurities masks greatly the effect of the dipolar interactions. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
