An (aminoalkyl)silane was bound to the particle and glutaraldehyde used to bridge between that amine group and the amine group on luminol. Due to luminol solubility considerations, the glutaraldehyde reaction was carried out in an ethanol/dimethyl sulfoxide solvent mixture. Loadings obtained were 29 mu M luminol/g of controlled-pore glass and 86 mu M luminol/g of silica. There is no evidence of any degradation of the luminol to 3-aminophthalate.
