COULOMB EXCITATION IN 127I

Coulomb excitation studies in 127I were carried out at various energies up to 5 MeV using alpha particles from a Van de Graaff accelerator. The spectrum of de-excitation gamma rays was studied with Ge(Li) solid state detector. The 58, 203, 375 and 418 keV levels were excited and the thick target yields were estimated, taking into account the gamma ray branchings from the various levels. The reduced E2 transition probabilities were deduced from these measurements and were found to be B(E2)203↑ = (3.5±0.5)×10-2, B(E2)375↑ = (1.5±0.2)×10-2 and B(E2)418↑ = (6.1±1.2)×10-3 in units of e2cm4×10-48. Similar measurements were also made using protons of various energies up to 5 MeV to look for the excitation of higher energy levels. No evidence was found for such excitations. © 1969.
