ON THE QUANTUM CORRECTION TO THE RATE OF THE SPHALERON TRANSITIONS

摘要
The quantum correction to the classical sphaleron mass in the (1 + 1)-dimensional abelian Higgs model is evaluated analytically. The semiclassical expansion is shown to break down for a large ratio of the guage coupling constant to the scalar self-coupling. This suggests that the semiclassical expansion plausibly is not reliable in the Coleman-Weinberg limit of the standard electroweak theory. A compact expression of rather general origin for the entropy factor in the sphaleron background is derived.
