PHOTOLUMINESCENCE FROM OH-RELATED RADIATIVE CENTERS IN SILICA, METAL-OXIDES AND OXIDIZED NANOCRYSTALLINE AND POROUS SILICON

摘要
It is shown that the green/blue photoluminescence from oxidized nanocrystalline and porous silicon, which has been attributed to the blue shift of the band gap in small silicon nanocrystals, is due to silanol groups; drop Si-OH. Alanol groups, = Al-OH and hydrated lead oxide, PbO2(OH) show the same photoluminescence in terms of spectral distribution and fast decay time of several nanoseconds. OH-related centers in zinc oxide display, beside a weak green/blue, also a red shifted yellow/green FL. These results together with some observations on the spark eroded light emitting silicon rule out the assumption that green/blue PL in oxidized porous and nanocrystalline silicon is due to quantum confinement in silicon nanocrystals and/or clusters.
