BORON CARBIDES OF VARIOUS COMPOSITIONS - AN IMPROVED METHOD FOR X-RAYS CHARACTERIZATION

摘要
The crystal parameters and the cell volume of boron carbide compounds have been investigated versus composition by an improved method allowing the use of bulk samples and leading to a higher accuracy than previous determinations. Not only the parameters of the cell but also its volume show a slope discontinuity near 13 at% C (B13C2). The single phase domain is confirmed to range from around 9 at % C (B10C) to exactly 20 at% C (B4C), the number of atoms per cell varying respectively from nearly 15.3 to exactly 15.
