ORIGIN OF UNIVERSAL ULTRAVIOLET LUMINESCENCE FROM THE SURFACES OF SOLIDS AT LOW-TEMPERATURES

摘要
A solution is proposed to the long-term confusion with the ''universal'' ultraviolet emission from the surfaces of solids of very different nature at low temperatures. Based on the variety of experimental properties it is argued that the emission is due to contamination of samples with zinc oxide.
