摘要
Extended huckel tight-binding calculations and first principles LMTO calculations are used to show that the Fermi level lies close to a peak in the electronic density of states for the RENi2B2C superconductors. A small carbon off-stoichiometry could move it to a more advantageous point. Calculations on the non-superconducting YNiBC show that the Fermi level lies in a valley in the density of states and thus is not a superconductor.
