MEASUREMENT OF SMALL OPTICAL ACTIVITIES BY USE OF HELICOIDAL WAVES

摘要
The helicoidal eigenstates of a passive Fabry-Perot resonator that contains two quarter-wave plates allow us to propose a novel polarimetric method whose sensitivity, compared with that of single-pass devices, is demonstrated to be enhanced proportionally to the square of the cavity finesse. Good agreement between the experimental and the theoretical enhancements of sensitivity is observed, and a detectability of 10(-6) deg is obtained with a cavity finesse of 150.
