MUTAGENICITY OF VINYL-CHLORIDE, VINYLIDENE-CHLORIDE AND CHLOROPRENE IN V79 CHINESE-HAMSTER CELLS

摘要
The mutagenicity of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride (1,1-dichloroethylene) and chloroprene (2-chloro-1,3-butadiene) [industrial chemicals] was tested in V79 Chinese hamster cells in the presence of a 15,000 .times. g liver supernatant from phenobarbitone-pretreated rats and mice. Mutations in terms of 8-azaguanine and ouabain resistance were induced in a dose-related fashion by exposure to vapor of vinyl chlordie in the presence of liver supernatant from phenobarbitone-pretreated rats. Vapors of vinylidene chloride and chloroprene induced a dose-related toxicity in the presence of liver supernatant from phenobarbitone-pretreated rats, but these 2 compounds were not mutagenic in V79 Chinese hamster cells under these conditions. The metabolic activation of these compounds and the correlation between their mutagenicity and carcinogenicity in humans and experimental animals were discussed.
