摘要
The isolated hydroxyl at the surface of thoroughly outgassed silica provides an example of a site capable of coordinating the same molecule in two ways. The cases of CO, H2O, NH3, and N2O are discussed. Thermodynamic considerations concerning 2-fold site-adsorbate interaction are developed both for ideal adsorption and within the context of a Bragg-William approximation. It is shown that in the case of H2O and N2O, both kinds of adsorption occur.
