HIGH-TEMPERATURE PROTONIC CONDUCTION IN PHOSPHATE-BASED SALTS

Proton conducting phaSeS Of Li3PO4, Na3PO4 and K3PO4 have been studied at intermediate to high temperatures using complex impedance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, concentration cell and fuel cell measurements. At 600-degrees-C proton conductivities of 6 x 10(-3), 4 x 10(-3) and 5 x 10(-3) S/cm have been obtained for Li3PO4, Na3PO4 and K3PO4 where protons have been introduced in the material. For Li3PO4 and Na3PO4 the cationic conductivity dominates over the proton conductivity but for K3PO4 the proton conductivity dominates.
