摘要
This paper reviews the experimental measurement of crosspolarization on satellite-earth paths, describes the identification of previously unexpected depolarization by ice crystals, and outlines the theoretical explanations of ice depolarization which have been reported in the literature. It summarizes what is known, and what is not yet undetstood, about ice-crystal depolarization. Implications of ice-crystal depolarization for satellite communications system design are discussed.
