Conditions for the growth of high-quality single crystals of kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(NCS)2, reported to be superconducting, are studied. It is found that the choice of solvent, composition of the supporting salt used for electrocrystallization as well as the synthesis of the BEDT-TTF molecule itself markedly influences the (super)conducting properties of crystals obtained. Depending on the conditions, T(c) values can be shifted from 8.7 K to 10.3 K. Moreover, we report a new synthetic pathway to superconducting (BEDT-TTF)2Cu(NCS)2 by oxidation of BEDT-TTF with Cu(SCN)2.
