The utilization of the amino acids and sugars by cells of the tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus, grown in vitro was studied during a 10 day period. The amino acids-aspartic acid, threonine, glutamic acid, proline, methionine, leucine, and phenylalanine decreased in concentration. Valine, cystine, and isoleucine remained at about the same concentration during the 10 day period, while serine, alanine, tyrosine, lysine, histidine, glycine, and arginine increased in amount. Both sugars in the medium-glucose and inositol-were extensively utilized. © 1969.
