TRANSPLANTATION

This Medical Progress report on transplantation is the first in which the growth of the subject makes it necessary to limit the discussion. We examine progress in transplantation of heart, liver, endocrine organs and tissues, skin, lung, bone and other, nonviable tissues, such as heart-valve leaflets. Bone-marrow transplantation and the immunogenetics of the major histocompatibility complex in human beings (the HLA system) have been reviewed recently,1 2 3 and kidney transplantation will be the subject of another report. We will view the subject mainly through the eyes of the clinician and discuss several topics of general importance before taking up the status. © 1979, Massachusetts Medical Society.
