ENHANCEMENT OF LUMINESCENCE OF COLLOIDAL CDS IN THE PRESENCE OF INDOLES - STUDY OF CDS-SENSITIZED REACTIONS OF INDOLE

摘要
The presence of indole causes an increase in the green photoluminescence of colloidal CdS and simultaneously quenches its 660 nm emission. The enhancement of luminescence can be explained by the formation of a transitory charge transfer (CT) complex between the excited CdS and the adsorbed indole. The CdS-sensitized oxidation of indole results in the formation of indigo. The first monolayer of indole leads to the observed photophysical effects but does not contribute to the formation of indigo. The subsequent layer of adsorbed indole undergoes photo-oxidation to produce indigo. The extent of adsorption controls the photochemical yield of the product. About 2.5 x 10(-3) M of indole completely prevents the photodissolution of CdS particles.
