摘要
When a computer generates text for a visual display unit, it is usually presented at the fastest speed available. The experiments described investigate the effect of different presentation speeds on performance in a learning task. Performance deteriorated at speeds similar to or faster than reading speed. If understanding and retention of textual material is important, the optimum presentation speed is in the range 10-15 characters/s.
