MAGNETIC DEFECTS IN ANTIFERROMAGNETICALLY-COUPLED CO-CU MULTILAYERS

摘要
We propose that the principal reason why 'giant magnetoresistive' Co-Cu multilayers tend to show non-ideal magnetoresistances and non-zero moments in zero field is the presence of defects in the multilayers' magnetic structures in zero field. We suggest that the most influential magnetic defects are antiphase domain boundaries parallel to the substrate. We derive a relationship between experimental values of magnetoresistance and the ratio of remanent to saturation magnetization.
