MEASUREMENT AND CORRELATION OF THE SOLUBILITY OF N-ALKANOLS (C18,C20) IN N-ALKANES (C-7-C-16)

The solubility of C18, C20 n-alkanols (1-octadecanol and 1-eicosanol) in hexadecane has been measured by a dynamic method from 290 K to the melting point. These and previous data concerning solubilities in normal alkanes (C-7-C-15) are correlated by means of Wilson, UNIQUAC, UNIQUAC ASM and two modified NRTL equations. The root-mean-square deviations of the solubility temperatures for all measured data vary from 0.23 to 2.43 K and depend on the particular equation used. The best solubility correlation was obtained with the Wilson equation. In the calculations, the existence of two solid-solid first-order phase transitions in alkanols has also been taken into consideration.
