A carpal tunnel release was performed on three patients with known gout of the lower extremity but not of the upper extremity. Each patient had a postoperative inflammatory reaction in a treated hand, and there was some suspicion of an infection in two patients. However, the inflammatory reaction resolved only when treated with a combination of anti-inflammatory and antigout medication.
