HEPATOMA PRESENTING AS EXTRAHEPATIC BILIARY OBSTRUCTION - REPORT OF A CASE

A patient with hepatoma who presented with jaundice was found to have obstruction of the common bile duct by thick biliary material that contained malignant cells of hepatocellular origin. It was later shown at autopsy that nodules of hepatoma were present throughout the liver; one of these nodules eroded through the wall of the hepatic duct. This area was proposed as the origin of the necrotic tumor found in the common duct. This cause of jaundice in hepatoma has been only rarely reported previously. © 1969 Hoeber Medical Division • Harper & Row, Publishing, Incorporated.
