RADIATION-INDUCED ELECTRICAL CONDUCTANCE IN LIQUIDS ARGON, NEOPENTANE, AND N-HEXANE - INFLUENCE OF ELECTRON LOCALIZATION EFFICIENCY ON FREE-ION YIELD

摘要
An extra electron in liquid argon does not form a localized state. The free-ion yield in liquid argon is G(e-) fi≈5, which indicates that all the ion-electron pairs formed during the x radiolysis of argon become free ions. The difference between the values of Gf i in neopentane (0.9) and n-hexane (0.13) is due to the smaller efficiency of electron localization in the former than in the latter liquid. The efficiency of electron localization is a function of the geometry of the hydrocarbon molecule.
