摘要
The formation of a sinuous wüstite/magnetite interface and outer magnetite surface occurred when thin strip, iron-aluminium alloys (0.005 to 0.2wt.% aluminium) were oxidized at 850 °C in atmospheres of low and high oxygen potential. It is concluded that plastic deformation of the wüstite initiated by oxide growth stresses, before the formation of magnetite, was the cause of this phenomenon; strong adhesion at the wüstite/metal interface appears to be a pre-requisite for the effect. An alternative explanation that thermodynamic instability could lead to oxide interphase boundaries undergoing geometrical changes to reduce their free energies is considered. © 1969 Pergamon Press.
