摘要
In this paper quantized vortex rings in tubes of circular cross section are studied. The energy and momentum associated with confined vortex rings are calculated. It is shown that a confined ring carries no momentum. This fact makes the application of Landau's criterion for the critical velocity at which vortex rings are created, doubtful. A new criterion for νc, based on mechanical equilibrium for a ring, is proposed and applied. It leads to an expression for νc which contains both the diameter of the tube and the distance from the wall at which a ring is created. From a comparison with experiments this distance is estimated. In addition, the time needed for the creation of a ring is calculated. © 1969.
