SUBDIVISIONS OF AUDITORY CORTEX AND THEIR ROLE IN LOCALIZATION OF SOUND IN SPACE

摘要
Ten cats were trained to localize sound in a two-choice food-reward situation. Localizing ability was tested at angles from 90 to 5°, and a threshold angle where animals scored 75% correct responses was determined. Animals were retested after bilateral ablations of subdivisions or combinations of subdivisions of auditory cortex. Ablations of auditory area I produced transient or permanent impairments in localizing ability. Animals were unimpaired after ablations which involved auditory area II, the insular-temporal region, the anterior and middle suprasylvian gyri, or the posterior ectosylvian gyrus. © 1969.
