TRANSIENT EFFECTS IN STIMULATED RAMAN SCATTERING

摘要
The article contains a discussion of the limits of applicability of the steady-state theory of SRS. It has been established that in many cases, a very important and sometimes a decisive role is played by time variations of the pump and stokes radiation. The transient theory of SRS which takes into account dispersion of the media and relaxation of optical phonons has been elaborated. The results of experiments on exitation of SRS in liquids with second harmonic of Nd3+ glass mode locked laser are communicated. Side by side with transient effects (strong forward-backward asymmetry, a sharp decrease of SRS efficiency in liquids with narrow Raman line) strong field effects have been observed (particularly strong SRS in water). Of considerable interest is the study of SRS of picosecond pulses under resonance conditions, when π-pulses of the pump or SRS take place. © 1969.
