GLASSLIKE THERMAL TRANSPORT IN HEAVILY IRRADIATED DIAMOND

摘要
We have studied the thermal conductivity K of heavily neutron-irradiated diamond from 0.15 K to room temperature. X-ray and Raman-scattering results indicate that this material is a mixture of sp2- and sp3-bonded carbon and amorphous in nature. The thermal conductivity is similar in temperature dependence to that of a glass with a high Debye temperature. The magnitude of K, however, is larger than that predicted by standard models of heat conduction in disordered solids. This may arise due to the strong covalent bonding in diamond.
