PHASE-BEHAVIOR OF THE ETHYLENE-METHYL ACRYLATE SYSTEM

Pressure-composition isotherms for the ethylene-methyl acrylate system are obtained at 15, 30, 75, and 120-degrees-C. The critical-mixture curve is also obtained at temperatures very close to the critical point of pure ethylene. This system has a continuous critical-mixture curve with a maximum in pressure as a function of temperature. The phase behavior of the ethylene-methyl acrylate system is similar to that of the ethylene-vinyl acetate and ethylene-toluene systems. The experimental data obtained in this study are modeled using the Peng-Robinson equation of state with two temperature-independent mixture parameters. Good agreement is obtained between calculated and experimental results.
