摘要
A method avoiding the use of fuming nitric acid in the determination of radiostrontium in biological material is discussed and described. A phosphate precipitation with bismuth is followed by the isolation of calcium and strontium as carbonate. A single treatment of the carbonate with 70% nitric acid to isolate strontium is carried out and the chemical yield determined as the sulphate. The contribution of strontium-90 is obtained by the solvent extraction of the daughter product yttrium-90. Overall recoveries of 90% are obtained. The whole procedure is considerably faster and more convenient than the current fuming nitric acid method. © 1969 Health Physics Society.
