摘要
Laboratory experiments on Pityogenes chalcographus revealed that emerging activity of young adults depends on photoperiod and temperature during brood development. 8 h-photoperiod at 20° determines most or all beetles remaining inactive within the galleries; 16 h-photoperiod at this temperature induces inactivity of 43 to 82 percent, presumably depending on quality differences of brood substrate. At 24° there is no effect of photoperiod on emerging of young beetles. Inactivity is regarded as a kind of diapause. Its biological and economic significance is briefly discussed. © 1979 Verlag Paul Parey.
