AURORAL ELECTROMAGNETIC DISTURBANCES AT AN ALTITUDE OF 900 KM - THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC-FIELD VARIATIONS

摘要
The relationship between the electric and magnetic fields in the auroral latitudes at the altitude ∼ 900 km is analysed. The disturbances related to the generation of shear Alfven waves are observed on the background of quasistationary current structures. It is shown that the electric and magnetic fields are often connected via Hilbert transformation. The uncertainty of the interpretation of this relationship is mostly connected with the impossibility of separating temporal and spatial variations. Some physical mechanisms that can be responsible for the phase shifts between electric and magnetic components are discussed. © 1990.
