GRAVIMETRIC MEASUREMENT OF ADSORPTION PARAMETERS IN WATER-SYSTEMS WITH A QUARTZ SPRING BALANCE

摘要
A gravimetric technique, utilizing a differential reactor, was applied to liquid/solid adsorption systems. The method allowed both equilibrium and kinetic parameters to be determiend simultaneously. The method was applied to four absorption systems. The adsorbents were F400 activated carbon and XAD4 polymeric resin, while phenol and p-chlorophenol were used as adsorbates. The gravimetric measurements were complicated by the effect of buoyancy. This complication was resolved experimentally. A theroretical explanation was given for the XAD4 systems. The adsorption parameters obtained by the new method were in good agreement with those found in the literature, and applicable to fixed-bed adsorption.
