A NEW PERSPECTIVE TO THE PHOTODISSOCIATION OF CLUSTER IONS - THE DETECTION OF NEUTRAL FRAGMENTS FOLLOWING THE PHOTOEXCITATION OF AR3+

摘要
Mass and kinetic energy resolved Ar3+ ions have been photodissociated at 532 nm in the entrance to a 2 m time-of-flight device. Subsequent deflection of all the ions allows for time resolved measurements to be undertaken on the neutral photofragments. As a function of the angle of laser polarisation, it is shown that the results are consistent with previous observations on the ion photofragment, Ar+. Additional information on the photodissociation process is extracted by making use of the fact that features in the observed velocity spectra must correlate with an integer number of neutral particles.
