The treatment of choice in hydatid disease of the liver is surgical(1) and includes a range of operative procedures including endocystectomy, pericystectomy and hepatic resection. The choice of procedure depends on the surgeon's experience and the local condition. Decompression of the cyst is necessary for subsequent endocystectomy and may be warranted to avoid cyst rupture during radical procedures. A new technique using a laparoscopic surgiport was devised to provide safe and effective evacuation.
