摘要
The elastic energy of a thin beam is proportional to the length integral of its squared curvature. Minimizing its energy, a constrained beam will assume the curve that minimizes that integral. The problem of finding the plane curve of minimal elastic energy with prescribed endpoints and end-directions was solved by B. K. P. Horn. Here the solution is discussed, given a very short proof, and extended to include a constraint on length.
