DIRECT IONIZATION OF ZEOLITES BY FAR-UV LIGHT FOLLOWING ELECTRON TRAPPING BY CHARGE BALANCING CATION CLUSTERS

摘要
The direct excitation of Na+-zeolites such as Na+-X, -A, -Y and -sodalite by UV light of wavelengths 193 and 185 nm (6.4 and 6.7 eV) ionizes the zeolites and produces electrons trapped in ionic clusters. The process with the 185 nm light exhibits a single-photon ionization. The threshold of ionization lies between 4.9 and 6.4 eV. With this far-UV light, more trapped electron species were observed in NaX compared to gamma-irradiation and fast electron (Febetron) radiolysis.
