Pitting corrosion of Fe-Cr alloys has been investigated by potentiostatic and galvanostatic techniques. The galvanostatic curves show an induction period and a reaction period. The length of the induction period is inversely proportional to Cl- concentration, and the reaction period is characterized by oscillations of potential. A minimum concentration of Cl- was necessary for attack. Passive films which have not yet reached the steady state are much more sensitive to Cl- attack. Analysis of solutions after corrosion showed that there is no selective dissolution of the Fe-Cr alloy. © 1969 Pergamon Press. Printed in Great Britain.
