PHASE-EQUILIBRIA IN SO2+H2O - SULFUR-DIOXIDE GAS HYDRATE, 2 LIQUID-PHASES, AND THE GAS-PHASE IN THE TEMPERATURE-RANGE 273-K TO 400-K AND AT PRESSURES UP TO 400-MPA

The H + L1 + L2 phase relations, where L1 and L2 stand for the liquid phases rich in hydrate former (sulfur dioxide) and water respectively and H for the gas hydrate, in sulfur dioxide + water have been investigated in the pressure range 1 to 400 MPa. The threephase line shows a maximum temperature at (293.68 ± 0.1) K at (3072 ± 20) atm. It can be concluded that the system shows a congruent melting line of the gas hydrate from (2100 ± 10) atm, up to higher pressures showing a temperature maximum at (294.05 ± 0.05) K and (3450 ± 20) atm. The critical mixing curve L1 = L2 has been partly determined. From the experimental results it is not certain whether or not this curve shows a temperature minimum. In addition the L1 + L2 + G relations in the temperature range 285 to 395 K have been investigated. Finally the solubility of sulfur dioxide in liquid water as a function of temperature has been determined in the presence of the second liquid and gas. © 1979.
