SOLID SOLVENT MEMBRANE COATED WIRE ELECTRODES AND THEIR RESPONSE TO NITRATE, PARA-TOLUENESULFONATE, CHLORIDE, CALCIUM, AND POTASSIUM

摘要
A new type of membrane matrix for the preparation of ionselective coated wire electrodes is developed. It uses a solid solvent membrane composed of an organic compound with a low melting point, such as stearyl alcohol (octadecan-1-ol) or triphenyl phosphate, in which are dissolved ion-exchanging materials for nitrate, p-toluenesulfonate, chloride, calcium, and potassium. The coated wire electrode is prepared by dipping its tip into a molten ion exchanger. The response characteristics and the selectivity of the electrodes as well as the effect of pH on the electrode cell assembly were examined. A calcium-selective solid solvent membrane electrode (SSME) is used to determine calcium in water samples. The results are compared with those obtained by complexometric titration and atomic absorption spectroscopy. © 1990, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
