A Monte Carlo calculation of the T = 0 nearest-neighbor exchange frequency J is used to show that the short-range correlations between an exchanging pair of atoms and their surrounding neighbors are of considerable importance to the exchange process in solid He-3. Their effect on J is to "steepen" its density dependence, and decrease its magnitude. The calculation was prompted by the neglect of these many-body correlations in recent theories.
