A SEMI-EMPIRICAL MODEL FOR VALENCE BAND STRUCTURE OF TELLURIUM

摘要
A simple model for the valence band structure of tellurium, in the neighbourhood of its maximum, has been derived. It takes account of spin‐orbit coupling and depends upon a restricted set of parameters which can all be determined from experimental data. Most of the qualitative features of electronic properties (Shubnikov‐de Haas effect, cyclotron resonance, and optical absorption) can be explained by this model, and a quantitative agreement between theory and experiments can be obtained.
