OBSERVED GAUGE PRESSURE DUE TO THE ACTION OF A TENSION PULSE ON A BUBBLE IN A VISCOUS INCOMPRESSIBLE LIQUID

A model of a bubble, consisting of an adiabatic gas surrounded by a viscous incompressible liquid with surface-tension of the liquid-gas interface, is studied in order to explain certain experimental results obtained for bubbles acted upon by a tension pulse. The theory developed explains the following experimental results: reproduction of the tension pulse in noncavitating conditons, and estimation of the magnitude of the observed initial pressure spike in the case of cavitation.
