PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA KERATITIS - MIXED INFECTIONS OF EYE

Pseudomonas aeruginosa eye infections occur in individuals weakened by pre-existing disease or corticosteroid therapy. They tend to be mixed infections with the Pseudomonas associated with gram-positive organisms, either pneumococci or streptococci. The disease may persist for a long time unless eradicated by effective antibiotic therapy. Prompt, broad-spectrum, combined antibiotic therapy with polymixin B powder freshly made up as eyedrops, alternated with gentamicin eyedrops, is recommended as the most effective treatment. © 1969.
