QUANTIFICATION OF MYCORRHIZAL INFECTION IN ROOTS OF CALLUNA-VULGARIS (L) HULL FROM DANISH HEATHLAND

摘要
As a part of an experimental study of the ecological role of ericoid mycorrhiza a quantitative analysis of the infection level in Calluna vulgaris on Danish heathland was carried out. The chitin assay was used to quantify the mycorrhizal infection in roots from C. vulgaris grown under field conditions. The amount of glucosamine was related to the microscopic observed infection levels. The chitin assay was of limited value. The background concentrations of glucosamine are a source of error.
