SHORT-RANGE ORDER OF METAPHOSPHATE GLASSES BY X-RAY-DIFFRACTION

摘要
Short range order in metaphosphate glasses containing Zn, Pb and Ag ions has been investigated by X-ray diffraction. Radial curves show a relevant peak arising from the distribution of nearest neighbour oxygen atoms around the metal ions. Quantitative analysis of these peaks and careful evaluation of the reliability of structural parameters were performed. Average coordination numbers are close to 5 for Zn, 9 for Pb, and 4 for Ag. Comparison of metal environment with that of the related crystals reveals substantial differences. The consistency of diffraction data with the metaphosphate chain model is discussed.
