摘要
This is the case history of an informal action group (HATS) that developed in a university-what it is, how it was started, what it has accomplished, in what ways it has been unsuccessful, and the characteristics that have aided its work and growth. The first section provides a brief overview of the group. The second section outlines the specific procedures followed by the group in arranging meetings, setting agenda, and accomplishing constructive work. In the third section the developmental history of the group is described, including: (a) some early innovative projects; (b) similarities between the EMBRYO HATS and what Leeds (1964) has termed “a nonconforming enclave”; (c) problems created by a temporary major expansion of the group; and (d) the problemsolving activities of the HATS as a mature workgroup. In the final section the causes and effects of success and failure experienced by the HATS as an informal action group are analyzed. © 1969, Sage Publications. All rights reserved.
